sailor moon review

so, would you believe me if sailor moon is the longest anime ive watched? i used to really like watching the openings as a kid, and i have really foggy memories of watching the dic dub with my mom. as an adult, i adore the series for it's art style and simplistic, but effective storytelling.

i have only seen the viz dub in its entirety. as far as i know, it's the most accurate dub and doesnt censor anything unlike dubs of the past.

the original anime is good. it has a fair share of filler mixed with plot, and its very simple (especially if you already know the basic plot details). all the inner senshi are really fun and the random one-off humans are great too. the villains were also really good, even if i mix up their names.

r was alright. the makai tree arc was enjoyable, even if it was just filler. but the black moon arc felt slow. i dont dislike chibiusa though, i actually think shes really fun. setsuna is there too but only really towards the end. the conclusion was satisfying and thats all that matters.

s, which follows the events of the mugen arc, has objectively the BEST op. it even morphs as more characters get introduced! giving haruka and michiru their own goals instead of immediately accepting to join the other senshi was an interesting concept. on top of that, theyre both flawed people who do irrational things. setsuna got more deveopment, which is great to see. and hotaru.. her entire arc is heartbreaking. ill say that. im just happy everyone is okay in the end.

supers follows the yume arc. i admit, the dead moon circus is a cool concept. the amazon trio made me mildly uncomfortable, but the amazoness quartet were great and had really cute designs. chibiusa befriending pegasus/helios is pretty nice, though im not too keen on the romantic aspects of their friendship.

sailor stars is the final season, and the only season to not get an americanized dub. it starts out with a filler arc, similar to r. its a very simple arc, so nothing special. after that, we enter the stars arc. a major highlight of it is the sailor starlights. i prefer to imagine them as girls like how its portrayed in the manga. girls wear suits better anyway. it has arguably the highest stakes of all the seasons, and it gives for a satisfying ending. though apparently it finished before the manga was even done.

ive only seen the r movie as of right now. it was alright. it has an original villain, and the animation is signifigantly higher budget. ill probably talk about the other movies in monthly entries whenever i decide to watch them.

my favorite of the inner senshi is a tie between rei and makoto. rei was my favorite as a kid, and aries is ruled by mars. she also shares the same dub actress with homura akemi. but makoto has my favorite personality and i love her interactions with the other senshi. haruka is my favorite outer senshi and i love how shes imperfect but also clearly has a deep love for michiru and protecting the world. harumichi is best ship, but you already knew that. also am i the only one who doesnt ship usagi and mamoru? imo theyre just bland together (plus.. their ages).

does baz recommend it? depends. if you have very good patience, then sit through it. filler and all. but if you are the impatient type, you may want to skip this one (or at least look up a guide on which episodes to watch). also the whole age gap thing i mentioned earlier.
