it's been two years since i docunented my hunt for a lost amv. a journey that, while tragic, was still a story worth telling. so i decided, "hey, i should talk about lost media again!". so after much recounting and research, here are THREE more pieces of personal lost media.
this is.. really specific. like so niche i feel like im the only one that remembers this. i contemplated whether i should talk about it, or save it for when im put at gunpoint. but then i decided "eh, why not.. it does fit the criteria."
have you ever heard of the untitled story? it's a passion project by boss/kevin do that got its start on flipnote hatena. it was pretty big in the "stick fight genre". anyways, with what little fanart that existed. there was one piece that lived rent free in my head as a sort-of inside joke.
the picture depicted the protagonist, asis, turning his head back to the viewer and saying "hey fangirls". with the antagonist(?), reo, looking uncomfortable and saying "kill me now". it's a silly little picture, and 11 y/o me (with her incomprehensible sense of humor) thought it was funny. unfortunately, the artist behind the image deactivated his deviantart. so sadly one of the greatest pieces of flipnote fanart is lost to the sands of time. not even this backup of the artist's deviantart page was able to save it.
however, i did make a crude recreation of it so that it's easier to explain to people. open it in a new tab to see it in full quality.
there was this really niche youtube channel i used to watch, who i will keep anonymous for now. among other things, they mainly focused on rayman videos. they were usually slideshows with ms paint art that ranged from really good to traced. they mainly did videos centered around rayman and globox in high school amongst various original characters. the most notable characters were a rebellious girl named raylin, a boy who had a crush on her named ricky, a punk couple that had a whole video dedicated to their backstory, and a few characters by other artists in the rayman fandom at the time. they occasionally made videos in english, though the grammar wasn't perfect (very likely esl). they would also frequently collaborate with their cousin.
despite the language barrier and amateur quality, i really loved their videos. i made up my own lore and stories using their videos as a springboard. often coming up with my own interpretations of their videos. i was genuinely heartbroken when i went to their channel a couple of years ago and found out they took down ALL of their videos. i did try to contact them and ask about their videos, but got nothing back. it seems near impossible that the videos will resurface unless the channel unprivates(?) them or somehow someone backed everything up. i highly doubt that will ever be the case though, as i recall the channel wasn't very popular at all. with a thousand views at best and even some negative comments.
no really. this existed. it was a screamer video that claimed to have "hard yaoi". or something along the lines of that. being a curious tween who wanted to see boys kiss, i watched it. of course, the alluring title was nothing more than a trap. as right before anything naughty can truly happen, the notorious zombie from the k-fee commercials appears.
i had only seen this video once. and sadly little me frequently cleared out her history and had no signs of the video in her liked list. however, i DID find the yaoi that was used in the video. it was enzai. the anime adaption specifically. it's... very explicit and triggering. not something i plan on watching or playing. though apparently it was the first yaoi game to be released in the states!
and with that, those are some more of my personal lost media. um... thanks for reading! ^_^
